General Information

Bringing home a puppy is just like bringing home a toddler. Your house has to be puppy-proofed!

    A few things to consider:

bulletAre there electrical chords the puppy can get to?
bulletAre there low tables he can take things off of or jump onto?
bulletAre the areas you don't want him in secured?
bulletWhere will he spend his days and nights?
bulletAny child toys laying around? He will make them his own.
bulletDo you have a pool? Is it secured?
bulletWho will be letting him out during the day if you work? You cannot leave a puppy for more than 3 hours without going out.
bulletDo you have other animals? Remember to slowly introduce them. Do not leave them alone together!
bulletYou may want to remove throw rugs so they don't chew on them or use them for other purposes.

    Things you will need:

bulletCrate (if dog being shipped to you he will be in one you can use for a while)
bulletBlanket for crate (may need to remove if the puppy is a chewer)
bulletStainless Steel Bowls for water and food

bulletToys - make sure none have small parts they can get to (example - ball with bell inside - remove the bell)
bulletIf you are training for protection work or schutzhund, do you have bite work training (play) tools?
